DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
At Sri Arunodayam, we recognize the critical importance of early intervention for children with intellectual disabilities and developmental delays. To address their unique needs, we utilize a combination of two well-regarded programs:
- The Upanayan Program: Developed by the Madhuram Narayanan Centre (MNC), this program focuses on fostering the development of 250 essential skills in young children.
- The Madras Developmental Programming System (MDPS): This program, designed by the Madras Institute of the Developmentally Disabled, targets 360 skills across 18 key developmental domains. These domains are addressed in a sequential order, ensuring a comprehensive approach to growth.
Both programs emphasize individualized learning, allowing us to tailor our interventions to each child’s specific strengths and areas for development. Through a combination of these evidence-based approaches, we provide a strong foundation for our children to thrive.
PRE-PRIMARY
Early stimulation is the cornerstone of healthy development for all children. However, for a disabled child, exploring the world can be a significant challenge. This is why we provide extra care and specialized activities that make learning easier and more enjoyable.
Many disabled children have delays in motor skills such as lifting their heads, rolling over, sitting up, or using their hands. Even basic activities like walking, talking, and self-care require specialized instruction. Our dedicated team teaches these fundamental skills in a supportive environment.
Once a child reaches a level of stability with these basic techniques, they transition to our Primary level program. This ensures a smooth progression in their developmental journey.
PRIMARY
Early intervention plays a critical role in minimizing developmental delays. The sooner a child begins our specialized sensory stimulation program, the greater their potential for future success.
Our well-planned program is designed to accelerate a child’s progress cognitively and socially.
Cognitive development: We introduce concepts like time, numbers, reading, writing, and problem-solving in a fun and engaging way.
Social and emotional development: We train them to participate in sports and cultural activities, fostering social interaction and building confidence.
We understand the importance of keeping learning enjoyable. By providing a stimulating learning environment that cohesively addresses individual needs, we empower these children to reach their full potential.
VOCATIONAL
We believe in fostering self-reliance and a sense of purpose in our children. Prayatna, which translates to “a good effort“, is our vocational training unit designed to achieve just that.
Prayatna offers training and employment opportunities for youngsters above 18 years old. The program trains them in activities like tailoring, farming, and dairy farming, promoting enjoyment of work and refining valuable skills.
Prayatna goes beyond simply teaching a trade. It provides a vibrant environment for our young adults to engage, learn, work, and interact.
Ultimately, Prayatna empowers them to achieve a level of independence and contribute to society in a meaningful way.
