Running an NGO is no easy matter – especially one like ours that provides life-long care and support to abandoned children with intellectual disabilities. While day care centers have the backing of parents, we do not have this support structure and must rely solely on Government funding and the generosity of corporate and individual donors such as yourself, to keep our organization running. Yet, together we have transformed the lives of hundreds of abandoned children over the years. And now you have the opportunity to do the same! Help us build our new home for girls, 1 sq.ft. at a time!

Sri Arunodayam receives nearly 15-20 requests a month for shelter but our existing homes have reached full capacity and we are unable to accommodate more children. Yet, wanting to do our bit, we commenced the construction of a new 13,168 sq.ft ‘residential cum rehabilitation’ home that can shelter an additional 100+ children, by end 2021. This construction commenced on August 28, 2019 at Kallikuppam, Kolathur. We need all the help we can get to open the door to a safe future for abandoned little girls. Poor nutrition affects a child’s ability to learn, and disrupts progress and development at many levels. With the recession, it’s been a tough year for everyone, yet, we ensured that our children never went to bed hungry. We are so grateful to all those who help put food on the table every single day so that our children enjoy balanced, nutritious meals.

Our children live with Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, fits and convulsions, and many other types of disabilities. 43% receive critical psychiatric medications because they demonstrate more susceptibility to psychiatric illness and display disruptive behaviors. 41% receive medications for fits. Epileptic attacks keep hindering their overall development. All these issues affect their already compromised ability to function, and hence they appear to benefit remarkably from timely medication.

Medical expenses in a home like ours make up a large part of our annual budget. The monthly diaper expenses alone amount to Rs. 52,000/- (a whopping Rs. 6.25 lakhs per annum) and more than 30 children need to use diapers daily.
