August 2019: Happenings@Home

“Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have.” (Jim Rohn)

Everybody looks for meaning in life. Some find it; some never do. Yet, almost all agree that loving and giving without compulsion, gives life deeper significance and meaning. There’s something about giving that blesses everyone – including giver and receiver. Since we get more joy out of giving, we must put a good deal of thought into the happiness that we are able to give others. Donating to Sri Arunodayam’s Corpus Fund is one of the best ways to ensure continued protection of vulnerable children, especially in their time of need. More details below, but first, here’s a quick roundup of happenings in past months.

Life through rehabilitation

At the National Seminar

In the last week of June, our Rehabilitation Psychologist - Dr Rajesh T Kalam attended the National Seminar on Psychological Intervention in the treatment of Psychotic Symptoms, organised by the Department of Clinical Psychology, Government Institute of Mental Health [accredited by the Rehabilitation Council of India (CRE Program)].

During the two-day seminar we had an opportunity to set up a stall to showcase products made by our children. Our staff and children got to interact with over 180 medical professionals who were fascinated with the beautifully designed products. They got to witness the enduring effects of timely rehabilitation that is transforming the lives of children with intellectual disabilities. A heartening outcome was that the hospital staff promised to bring their families over to participate in our home’s child-focused programs.

Unleashing creativity together!

For close to a month, Deborah Uller from Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, Massachusetts, USA was with us, conducting a block printing workshop at Prayatna – our vocational training center.

Our boys learnt to sketch and create beautiful block printing templates. Not exactly knowing how the finished product would look until they’re done, was part of the fun with this particular craft! Thank you Deborah for introducing them to a new art technique and helping them make the experience their very own. You got their creative juices flowing!

Good reasons to donate to our Corpus Fund...

The Board of Trustees establish a Corpus Fund on July 18, 2019

Running an NGO is no easy matter – especially one like ours that provides lifelong care and support to abandoned children with intellectual disabilities. Our home is one among very few across the country that harbors children with disabilities. Most homes act as day care centers funded by parents. We are, therefore, solely dependent on Government funding and the generosity of corporate and individual donors to keep our home running, especially as services provided to beneficiaries are absolutely free!

To strengthen our financial resilience in a time of crisis, Sri Arunodayam's Board of Trustees established a permanent/capital fund called the Corpus Fund, at a board meeting held on July 18, 2019. This will ensure that the most critical child-focused programs run without interruption in times of emergency.

Should you decide to donate to this fund, here are a few simple guidelines:

Cheques must be made in favor of: “Sri Arunodayam Charitable Trust
As a mandatory legal requirement, we will need your written consent stipulating that your donation is specifically meant for the corpus of our organization.
To donate by Wire Transfer (Domestic or International) view our Bank account details here.
To donate online via a secure EazyPay server, visit our sponsorship/donation page, and subscribe through the “Corpus Fund” tab.

All donations are tax exempted

You have the power to safeguard Sri Arunodayam’s children no matter how difficult times may get! Feel free to call/email us for more information.
