Truth be told, we were as terrified as everyone else when the COVID-19 pandemic struck a couple of months ago. Keeping our children healthy and safe was, and continues to be, our first priority. However, it’s simply irresponsible to turn a blind eye to the sufferings of others around us. Caught off-guard and unprepared, Governments across the globe have made some terrible gaffes and marginalized groups, including daily wage earners and their families, continue to suffer in silence. Economic experts predict that it’s not the virus that’s likely to kill people but starvation! This is a sobering truth…

Yet, in the middle of chaos like this, there is also opportunity – a chance to let people know that they are not alone. Firmly believing that small acts when multiplied by millions of people can indeed transform our world, Sri Arunodayam wasted no time in reaching out to people in distress.

Our 100 masks/day project
Ongoing since April 14, over 9300 snugly fitting cloth face masks have been distributed free to the most vulnerable sections of society such as the elderly, the differently abled, migrant workers and homeless people.

Dry ration kits distributed to families of daily wage earners
Ongoing since April 23, over 1515 ration kits have been distributed to starving families across Chennai.

Hot meals for migrants and their families
Ongoing since May 13, over 5000 migrant workers and their families were served hot, nutritious meals twice a day.

Joint outreach with partners to assist families with disabled children
Financial assistance was provided to 124 families of daily wage earners with members with intellectual and other disabilities.

The need is great today, yet most people don’t really know who to trust or partner with in genuine outreach programs. So, here are a couple of ideas:

Become a partner in our mask distribution project. Purchase our masks and distribute them to your loved ones and to vulnerable people on your street. It’s a small gesture, but it lets them know you care. This will also provide income for our young tailors.

Become a partner in our other programs. You can contribute towards dry ration kits, or towards hot meals for migrants and their families (one look at the number of innocent little migrant children undergoing hardships will definitely melt your heart!). You can also provide financial assistance to support one family with disabled children at least for a month. Reports on all these activities are readily available with photographic evidence on our website, and the numbers are constantly being updated.
